Dining on the Disney Wish: The Good, the Bad, and the Mediocre

The Food on the Disney Wish

The Disney Wish is a part of the newest fleet subset on Disney Cruise Line. This brings more dining options to Disney Cruise Lines and new menu items that are delicious. I was able to go to every included restaurant, tried some DCL staples and ate as much as I could on my six nights on this ship.

The Good

The filet mignon at 1923 was one of the best items on the cruise ship. It didn’t taste completely mass produced and had a good flavor.

The churros of 1923 is once again a favorite of mine. They are crunchy and flavorful paired with a delicious caramel sauce. I have quite a sweet tooth and this was one of my faorite desserts on the ship.

The potato soup at Worlds of Marvel was good. It was creamy, warm, and tasty. I didn’t want to completely leave Worlds of Marvel off this list, but it is barely on here.

The scallops in the puff pastry is the best appetizer on the ship, and it didn’t disappoint on either of the times I got it. If I go on the Wish again, I might have to get this for appetizer, entrée, and dessert at Arendelle.

Maybe it is nostalgia, maybe it is incredibly difficult to mess up fried chicken but the chicken tenders are a nightly occurrence for me. It tastes great and the vibes are just off the charts.

Mickey’s Barbecue was a pretty good quick service as an alternative to the buffet. The chicken, ribs, pulled pork, mac, cornbread, and their selection of sauces was pretty good.

The shrimp, salmon, and sweet potato fries on the lunch buffet was one of the best buffet departure meals on any cruise I have been on. The shrimp was delicious.

Mickey churro waffles never disappoint.

The Mediocre

The pizza is right on the verge of mediocre and bad but I would like to leave it in the mediocre category. I didn’t completely hate it and when it comes to included pizza, I have definitely had worse. This pizza speaks to some people but I guess I have my ear plugs in. Even my fiancé who swore up and down the pizza on the Disney Magic was the worst cruise line pizza but then RAVED about the pizza on the Disney Wish.

The Icelandic Cod Filet with pea and potato puree available at Arendelle was a decent entrée. Similarly, the chicken schnitzel at Worlds of Marvel.

Wedge Caesar salad was tasty but not amazing.

All the ice cream including the dining room sundaes.

The BAD

The bao bun at Worlds of Marvel is completely flavorless. It tastes like a lump of flavorless dough, with even more flavorless stuffing. Waste of calories, go straight for the potato soup.

Any food item on Castaway Cay. Unfortunately, I tried most of the food options on their private island but none of it was good. It went straight through the flavor vacuum once outside the kitchen.

Any cheeseburger on Disney Cruise Line. This is a flavorless, hard hockey puck.

Overall, the food on the Disney Wish was on par with other cruise line foods. Some great items, some good, most bad or mediocre. The Virgin cruise ships are still number one when it comes to food. I still dream about the shrimp skewers on the back of the ship.
