The Review of the HoopDeeDoo Musical Revue

HoopDeeDoo Musical Revue

When I was coming to Disney on family vacation, we never sniffed the inside of a table-service restaurant. It was either quick service or homemade meals in our value resort. The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness for $70 an adult was a place that I had no idea what it was until I moved here and the restaurants of the Disney World hotels have been fun to try out. The amount of money that these restaurants charge for food has sometimes gotten outrageous with how bad the food is. The Disney tax hits hard. For this show, I don’t view it the same way.

I have been to several different dinner shows throughout my life. Orlando is full of them. The most recent one I went to was the Teatro Martini which is very close to Universal. This was closer to $100 a person and was a much smaller experience. I brought this place up because the experience is still fresh in my head and the food was horrendous when I went.

The HoopDeeDoo show was cheaper on the balcony view. Sometimes you have to crane your neck in different ways to look over the poles and the railing to see the show but overall, the performers would come up there for a bit, they would walk around the whole restaurant so the view wasn’t bad.

The show itself was cute and funny. Plenty of fun songs they sing, and all of the audience had a blast. The audience participation during these types of shows is always tremendous and this was no different. Every time they picked on an audience member I was laughing. The show was paced out in a fun way too, where we could enjoy our meal at a reasonable pace without having to worry about missing the action to take a bite of food.

The food outshined the show and was the cause of a large stomachache an hour later because I just could not stop eating this food. When you first walk in, they bring out the appetizers, this is cornbread with butter, a nice salad. They also bring your drinks out which include beer, wine, and sangria as alcoholic options which are included in the price. This was a huge delivery of value as I ordered the sangria, and they brought out a glass plus a refill to start. My brother got the beer and before he finished with the first beer, another one showed up at our table. The sangria was okay but no extra cost gives it a lot of grace. The cornbread we had was fantastic. It is the same cornbread as Trail’s End, and from Whispering Canyon Café over at Wilderness Lodge. I used to not like cornbread. Every time I went to Cracker Barrel, I would get the biscuits instead of the cornbread. Now, I can’t get enough of it. So much so that I found the recipe online and made it for dinner the week after I went. It was just as good at home and with the whipped honey butter it is served with really should go in the food Hall of Fame. The salad was a salad. It tasted good but the cornbread is the item I finished. Once I tasted the appetizers, I knew this was a different experience than most dinner experiences. This food was going to be delicious.

Our entrée came out shortly after. Baked beans, mac and cheese, ribs, mashed potatoes and fried chicken. Every item on the table was good. I felt like a puddle of grease and fat after the meal but oh my goodness it was delicious. The best item was the fried chicken. It was absolutely incredible and rivaled my favorite fried chicken from Publix. The older I get, the less fried food I want in my life, but I just couldn’t help myself. I accepted the issues that occurred after, but I was going to enjoy this chicken. I kept reaching back into the basket. Rib after rib. Chicken after chicken. I ate the most I have eaten in years. The entrée was a solid 9/10. Delicious.

After the largest crowd participation portion of the show, it was time for the strawberry shortcake. I didn’t know that was a part of the meal and after all of the fried chicken I had just had, I really didn’t want it to be part of the meal. Of course, I have to get my money’s worth, so I ate this too and oh my goodness. Delicious. Every single course had a homerun in the meal. I just say save costs. Just bring cornbread, fried chicken, and that strawberry shortcake. Those were the three excellent items and if health was not a concern, I would eat these three items every day.

After dessert it was the finale, and the servers came around with washboards to play during the finale. This was so much fun, and everyone was really getting into it.

This was the best dinner show I have ever been to. The show was good, the food was EXCELLENT, and with alcoholic drinks included, I would definitely go back to it. I really don’t have any notes. This was an incredible experience. The difference between this and the dinner shows around Orlando is massive and this experience has really ruined those for me if I ever go do back to them. The $70 price tag for the balcony seating is a bit high but for similar costs you can go to a character dinner, this isn’t even close. I would like to say that this was my favorite meal on property.
