The Magical Disney Tax of the Enchanted Rose
The Grand Floridian is widely regarded as Disney’s flagship resort. They have so many amenities like several dining establishments such as a Michelin Star-awarded restaurant, several pools, an amazing lobby, great transportation options, and even a yacht. I remember when I was able to secure a $200 room there with a cast member discount. I believe that was back in 2020 and will probably never happen again.
One of the newer additions to Grand Floridian is the Enchanted Rose. It opened in 2019 and replaced the other lounge called Mizners Lounge. The Enchanted Rose is themed on Beauty and the Beast and they offer a wide selection of beer, champagne, non-alcoholic drinks, and even more alcoholic drinks. They have a small bite option menu as well. These items on this menu have a WIDE range of pricing so let’s get into that. Here are the top 10 most expensive bottles of alcohol at the Enchanted Rose.
The cheapest bottle on this list is the F.E. Trimbach Cuvée Frederick Emile which comes in at such a reasonable price of under $200. The only one on this list under the $200 range at $190. They don’t have the year on these menu items but if it is the 2014 bottle it is going for $115 elsewhere. This is a 65.22% magical tax upcharge. This is going to be a theme because this markup isn’t even the worst.
At number nine, we have another “REASONABLY” priced bottle, the Merry Edwards Meredith Estate Russian River Valley and I’m assuming it’s 2020. It goes for $92 elsewhere but $220 at Disney. This is a 128% markup.
At number 8, we have the Marchesi Antinori Tignanello for $290. This bottle is going for $155 elsewhere or an 87% markup for Disney.
At number 7, the Jarvis Finch Hollow Chardonnay finally breaks the $300 barrier at $320. You can find it elsewhere at $170 which is an 88.23% increase.
Number 6 is $380 per bottle and it is the Cuvée Dom Perignon Brut. You can find this 2013 bottle elsewhere for $245. Only a 55% markup.
At 5, the Krug Grande Cuvée Brut is $420 a bottle. Just a quick Google search later, and you can find a 750ml bottle for $199.99. This markup is 110%.
Bodega Numantha Termanthra sounds like a spell from Harry Potter, but it is also the 4th most expensive bottle at the Enchanted Rose coming in at a price of $460. A 2014 bottle is $250 elsewhere, which is an 84% markup.
Tied for third we have two bottles here.
The first is the Louis Roederer Crystal Brut for $470 at the lounge. At Total Wine and More, you can get it at $320. With only a 46.88% increase, I am proud of Disney.
Leonetti Cellar Walla Walla Reserve is $470 as well and because the year isn’t on it and based on other markups, I am assuming that the 2019 bottle for $270 is the choice. A 74% markup.
In the second place, hold onto your wallets. Opus One Red Blend is going for $670, and the 2018 version of this bottle is $459.97 which is again, a smaller markup of 45.65%.
At number one is the Louis Roederer Cristal Rose going for a price of $1670. Breaking the $1000 barrier with ease plus some. This 2013 bottle is at Total Wine and More for $879.99. This is an 87.5% markup.
Some of these Magical markups get a bit ridiculous and these are all educated guesses due to the year not being on the bottles. The prices that Disney is charging for these items is shameful for how much they sell at other places. Not to mention I am sure they have a cheaper supplier elsewhere to increase their margin even more. Alcohol is typically where companies decide to make a huge margin but Disney takes it to another level by charging 80% more than anywhere else on most of these bottles. With some even being over 100% increase.
