Stay and scream or close it down
HHN has several options when it comes to experiencing lower wait times. One is closing it down, one is RIP Tours, one is express, and one is Stay and Scream. All but one of these are an extra charge. Stay and Scream can be included with your park ticket, but you have to pay extra to add it to a standalone HHN ticket for $55. RIP tour is $399.99 not including admission. An express pass can also be bought at $189.99 on top of your admission ticket.
If you are cheap like me, and only buy the HHN ticket, then closing it down is your best shot. The wait times are lower, and I went from 11:00 until 2:00 and could do six houses, with three of them usually having longer waits. Here are my waits:
Museum: 11 minutes
Sweets: 25 minutes
Slaughter: 17 minutes
Triplets: walk on
Ghostbusters: 10 minutes
Quiet Place: 10 minutes
Six houses with varying popularity all within three hours of the event. As a person who usually goes to bed at 11:30 at the latest, I was hitting a wall at about 1:00 AM. For you night owls out there, this is the perfect strategy for you. These were fantastic waits compared to how long they were throughout the day. Most of them are during the popular time of the event about 7-12 you can expect these houses to be over an hour. This option is also included with your event ticket. While in the Slaughter Sinema line, you can also see the Goblin and Monster line, which were both walk-ins at that time.
Stay and Scream is a $55 extra charge on top of your event ticket. If you have a day pass to Universal, you can stay in the park for it. This option is more my speed, I was able to do 5 houses and 1 ride in 2 and a half hours.
Ghostbusters: 19:25
Quiet Place: 23:47
Slaughter: walk on
Monsters: 3:54
Goblin: 1:58
Men in black: walk on
Once again, compared to the rest of the night these waits were amazing. Especially, Ghostbusters, Quiet Place, and Slaughter. Three of the most popular houses were done in less than an hour. Getting three done that quickly is a great start to be able to get all 10 done. Goblins and monsters are typically shorter waits but getting these done in less than 10 minutes in total is great.
Five houses and one ride in 2 and a half hours. Six houses in three hours is also very good. As well as $55 cheaper if you don’t have a regular park ticket. My best advice is to skip out on Insidious during Stay and Scream and do it later on in the night. The Stay and Scream line separates by 75% when the Insidious path is open. Leaving Ghostbusters to be a walk on basically. Immediately after Ghostbusters hit Quiet Place. For a sub-25-minute wait for one of the most popular houses. Insidious was incredibly long for Stay and Scream. Stay away.
