Gulf Coast Jam Cheap Trip

The experience economy has boomed lately. Concerts, cruises, theme parks, festivals, and traveling worldwide have increased. It has been magnified by the COVID lockdown but people like me in their 20s enjoy experiences over things.

I know I have gone to more theme park events, more concerts, more sporting events, and more cruises than I ever have before before 2020. A portion of that is adult money related and the other is proximity. I am an hour away from a cruise terminal, worked at a theme park so I could go to their events for free. Two hours from Tampa, and two hours to Jacksonville. I am smack in the middle of Florida, so it has been an incredibly easy to have my event attendance rise. I was originally from North Florida, and I was six hours away from Central Florida. Seven hours to the cruise terminal. Three and a half to Jacksonville. Much less gas needed and sometimes access to free events has helped me to save money and go to more events than I ever have in a three-year period. Slightly off-topic but back to it. Here is what I spent on a trip to Gulf Coast Jam.

Tickets

I have no idea what normal tickets were going for, I traded some Universal tickets for tickets to the Gulf Coast Jam when I used to work for Universal. I would guesstimate that a 4-night event ticket entry would be close to $500 for two people to go. It was nice saving money in this area. I did have to stand about 500 feet from the stage and 20 feet from the entrance though. But. FREE.

Travel

I love the state of Florida, there is so much to do so I only had to pay for the gas up there and back which cost $65.75 only taking about one and a half fuel-ups.

Food/drinks

If you have seen my Disney blogs this category can shoot up to crazy numbers, so I am happy to say that I spent $62.37 for two people to eat breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was free, not very tasty, but free. That was probably the theme for this trip. The accommodations weren’t top-notch, but it was all free.

Hotel

One night stay was bought with credit card points so kind of free?

The total paid was $128.12 for the trip.

Being creative for trips is a great way to save money on vacation. Go during times of discounted rates. Go during times where there is an event you really want to see and be creative about where you stay. Shop around, don’t just see one hotel and book there. $128.12 for a night trip to see a concert and eat for two people seems like a great deal. It’s hard keeping it under $100 for date night sometimes if you do something plus dinner. Fun trip. Terrible seats. But fun trip.

I haven’t really gotten the finer things in life so seeing Morgan Wallen from 500 feet away isn’t too bad for me and I would not have paid over $1000 for the VIP viewing.
